First Nature Farms

Location: Goodfare, Peace River Country 4 miles east of the British Columbia border
Description of operation:
First Nature Farms (or “the Ranch”) has been around since 1918. Certified organic since 1990, the operation produces bison, beef, pork, chickens, eggs, Merriam’s wild turkeys and domestic turkeys. First Nature Farms is operated as an ecological reserve. It is home to many species including Trumpeter swans, mountain bluebirds, wolves and grizzly bears. The farm goal is to protect and enhance the biodiversity of the land. These farmers, experienced in animal husbandry, live on 3350 acres between Grande Prairie and Dawson Creek.
Length of apprenticeship: minimum 3 months
Number of apprentices sought: 2
Areas of potential apprentice specialization:
Apprentices have the opportunity to learn skills related to the raising of animals, farm machinery and safety, fencing, building construction, mechanical repair, and selling at farmers markets. A great location for anyone interested in exploring the outdoors.
General work expectations: Monday to Saturday with Sundays off.
Minimum expectations: physically fit, independent, mature, ready for adventure

Lodging: Apprentice would live in their own building.
Stipend: To be negotiated with farmer
